Chicago had years of horrible absentee ownership. You could barely even get the RESULTS of a Hawks game on local TV and radio, let alone live coverage. New ownership stepped in and put the whole franchise into a hard 180, and it's paid off HUGE.

The owners worked at turning the franchise around, but the biggest impact for the team was their #1 picks and the team actually winning.
Look at the Avs. They had a record of over 500 straight sell outs for their home games, till they started to suck.
Right now, the Hawks are actually making money, and so is the Pens, which is a big part of why they can afford to purchase the Pirates.
