man this is a great forum, so much knowledge and a sence of maturity. I dont know why I dont spend more time here.

Anyways, Although I feel this is a noobie question, and it may have been covered a million times, I figured I would give it a go anyway.

So I may be/probably am wrong in places here and would like some correction.

What I am guessing is that all cars will have OEM chip in the ECU. Are all these chips removable so that you can put in an aftermarket tuned one? Is socketing somthing that you have to do to a ECU without a removable chip to get it to take an aftermarket chip? Is a socketed ECU a ECU with the ability to use an emulator? Does a Emulator connect to a port on the ECU or is it like a chip that plugs into the ECU?

I have a good general idea of how it all works but not how things actually plug into the car and ECU.

Like lets say we had a:

F-150
S2000
M3
Supra

if we wanted to do minor tunes on these vehicles, is it essencially the same process for all or do they each have a specific way that you must take to give it a tune? Is it just as simple as take the OEM chip out, throw in a new one?

Anyways, sorry for the shit-ton of questions.

Also I had no idea that there was soooo many standalones out there, wow, I would have been able to come up with like 2, howcome AEM isnt a big one? I thought that there electrical products were really good?
