I wouldn't wash anything, the smell's going to come back unless you always dry your gear the moment you get home. I've sat next to guys who's gear just reeked because they just left it in their bags until the next ice time. I've thrown shoulders, elbows, shin pads (well, just the removable liner if you have one), and jock shorts in the washing machine and they've been fine. If it's anything else I'd just sell it and buy new, especially if it's gloves.
