Yeah, I'd say if you buy off eBay, at least get some reputable branded discs. Verbatim discs are generally good but are usually a little bit pricier. Ritek seem to be hit or miss.

Unfortunately, buying writable media is a bit of a crapshoot. Most of the time, even retail branded media aren't always great (like Memorex DVD's) and almost all of them are just rebranded discs from one of the big manufacturers and you don't know what the media code is until you open the packaging and check it. I usually buy from online retailers that actually provide media codes in their product descriptions. This way, I know what I'm getting when I buy my media. (personally with recordable DVD's, I stick with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Don't have a BD-R so I don't know what's good.)
