I need to be able to use CAD, 3Ds Max. I also game. I wouldn't be able to use any of those things on a mac without dual booting.

laptop of similar spec are usually around $900-1400.
Biggest difference I see btw is that the HP has discrete 4830 video card...good if you are looking for a desktop replacement or gaming machine.
but for CAD and most office you work you'll probably see bigger benefit with the SSD HD.
and generally i think 15" is way too big if you are planning on carrying it around. i'd take the sony if i have to choose between 1 of them, at least chicks will dig it.

Thanks for the advice, I'm leaning toward the Sony myself. The Sony is expensive because it is made out of magnesium and carbon fibre. It is also less than 4lbs from what I remember.

Personally I'd pick the sony, but thats only becuase I've been using the Z line since it was the SZ series and I'm biased.
1600x900 is high enough resolution for me on such a small screen.
You can add ram up to 8gb iirc.
128gb is more than enough, if you're going to watch movies and download tons or music/porn just stick it on an external hard drive. Everyone has one of those dedicated to porn right?
I think the benefit of weight and battery life alone make it better than the HP, actually anything is better than HP. Only issue is price and since you're even considering the Sony, price must not be an issue.

Good to know about resolution, that was the main issue I was worried about.
