I got a mbp 17". The two silent fans runs at 2000rpm and ssd drive. You have to put your ear right next to the keyboard late at night to hear any noise.

Actually I have 3 SSD's one in each of my laptop/netbook/MID. But I get them for speed and power savings. My vaio p and timeline didn't make any noise when they had the regular HDD installed. In fact the Vaio P is fanless. You practically had to put your ear up against them to hear it. Since OP looking for a desktop replacement I think the larger spinning drive vs. the smaller ssd would be a better option $$ wise. Most of the time its the fan that makes the most noise anyways.
