In fact the Vaio P is fanless. You practically had to put your ear up against them to hear it. Since OP looking for a desktop replacement I think the larger spinning drive vs. the smaller ssd would be a better option $$ wise. Most of the time its the fan that makes the most noise anyways.

before I switched to ssd in my laptop. All I heard was the hd... spinning and clicking. So ssd made the biggest difference for me.
