Definitely, no doubt about that... I have several fully-customized Wordpress sites also. Both required extensive CSS work & lots of custom graphic design. Not easy stuff if you're new to web development.

But, if you don't mind using WordPress themes and just customizing whatever you can via the GUI, then it's a very easy & effective way to go.
