According to Gordon Murray, BMW's V12 was quite a bit heavier than what he asked for...but because of its 6.1L displacement and 627 horsepower
(vs Honda 4.5L approx 500-550hp V10 or V12), the McLaren F1 ended up getting fastest topspeed sportscar in the world.
But that really wasn't Gordon Murray trying to achieve, it just happened to be the fastest straight line vehicle.
