The recent small cameras with big sensors are quite appealing because of the image quality/size ratio. My friend has the Panasonic GF1, and it's quite amazing. I expect the Olympus cameras to be quite good too. The one camera I haven't seen or tried yet is the new Sony NEX cameras. Very interesting, as they are very thin. Of course, due to the size of the sensor, the lenses are kinda big.
