im starting to get a new perspective on how the body adapts to weights and gains strength

i firmly believe that even struggling thru a couple reps of 275 is better than plowing out 8 reps of 255 for gaining strength. i really believe everytime you lift more than you can (within reason), your body learns that new weight and will adapt to being able to lift it in the future. even if you dont really get a good set in, just having the weight in your hands seems to make a difference

i think this, because sometimes when im stuck at a weight for a while powering out good reps but not able to lift any more than that weight, if i throw in a set of even a couple reps of 10% more weight, when i go back to the lesser weight, it becomes easier, and quite often ill be able to move up 5% after that.

so just for example, if youre benching 185 but are stuck and cant seem to be able to bench 195 cleanly.. grab a spotter and push out a couple reps of 205. dont make the spotter lift it for you, just have him there to give you a hand if you need it. when you go back to 185 the next time you're doing bench, it seems easier, and you might be able to start doing sets of 195.

or maybe theres no blood left in my brain
