I just came back from Shanghai and I can suggest 小楊生煎包. (Yang's Fried Dumpling) They have several locations, must try. I ate like 2 orders myself...
they are that awesome. Even better than the Xiao Long Bao that SH is famous for.
If you are meeting up with a couple of friends and want to eat some good quality/service Chinese food, hit up 海港. My friend's dad (who are local) brought us there. A bit on the expensive side since it's mainly seafood, but the service and food quality were top notch. We ate at several $$ restaurants in SH this trip and this is the only one that I'd rate 8.5+ on average.
