We'd all like to think about how things will pan out... but like a few of us who've responded, I don't think you'd really know how you would act unless you're put in that position. Really comes to a mind over matter issue.
But like all dreams, its fun to entertain. So what would I do?
Being so young, I can't imagine how many of the few people I actually know would come up to me and hassle me for some of it. I mean sure, I'd help a select few pay off their tuitions, come along on vacations, have a little down time. But when it comes down to it, how crazy are these people actually going to get just cause you have money (And these are my more trusted/honest friends I'm talking about)? Then you could ask about the crazies... are my Aunts/Uncles/Cousins really going to come hunt me for the money? Being first generation Chinese it seems like they'd have a little more pride than that, but who knows, and it's not like I'd neglect helping them financially in one way or another. And how about the distant relatives I've never met? Luckily for me, my family likes to keep to itself, so I doubt my name even goes past our little family tree bubble.
All in all, I guess I'm fortunate my family is more on the conservative side and I'm pretty selective of the crowd I cruise with. I can't really say it's never too late to start limiting the people you guys talk to, but I suppose you could try? lol. Then again, what are the odds of winning anyway.
As for my spending habits, I suppose I can't say until I have cheque in hand, but again I think its a mind over matter situation. Be smart with that money, don't let it be your downfall, but use it as a means of enriching your life as well as those around you. A nice car, comfortable living space, see the world, and watch my money grow in property investments. Easy.
