This is exactly what I mean. I'm aware that Lu's contract is mostly safe but seriously, all this garbage is just stupid. It isn't as if the long contracts create an uneven playing field...everyone is welcome to do it. It's just that some owners don't spend to the cap ceiling and they're usually the ones in shitty hockey markets that lose money every year. Bettman should be more focused on moving those teams where people will appreciate them.
And player salaries are higher now than before the lockout. If anything, it's the NHL's fault that they didn't look at stuff like this more closely.
Circumvention is more like if they paid Louie $1 a year and then paid him through another company for endorsement deals his $6m a year. Something like that. All the long contracts that are currently signed...I'd call that "creative use of CBA mechanics".
