Programs I recommend. Google chrome, works faster then safari and use less memory. iWork package > office, if you need it iWork is much easier to use, clean, simple, can save to .doc or .docx or even .pdf. Transmission for your torrents. Lightroom if your a big picture person. Can edit and organize your photos altho iPhoto isnt bad as well. Backup your mac via timemachine, very good backup program can go back on settings and files.
