Two motorcyclists who sped down a busy Quebec highway at more than twice the legal speed limit have lost their licences temporarily and face heavy fines.

Provincial police said the two men, ages 26 and 37, were hightailing it down Highway 10 near Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton in the Eastern Townships on Monday evening.

Police officers with radar recorded the speed of the motorcycles at 220 km/h. The speed limit was 100 km/h.

Each of the two men received tickets of $1,848 in addition to 30 demerit points on their driver's licences. Their licences were also suspended for seven days.

Police said one of the motorcycles was not registered, and its rider received an additional fine of $438
