With the older ones, it was very difficult to swap out the HD yourself, and if you broke anything like those one million little tabs securing the bottom plate to the body, it would very well end up costing you more for repairs.

i replaced my fan + superdrive on my old style non unibody macbook pro. It was time consuming and frustrating to pry open the body but not that hard honestly.
My gf has the newer unibody and i just help her install sum ram. I'm very impress with how easy it is to work with but not having quick removable battery is still a concern for me
