because at first it just seemed to me like a another status symbol, a goal for people to earn a lot of thanks or a lot of fails while not adding too much substance to a thread. I would also see people like tegra devil in seasons past get nailed with fails without really earning them with stupid comments but for being a flames fan. I began to thank him (and others) to counter this behaviour, show my support as a fellow non-canuck fan, and to also genuinely thank him for not being afraid to comment in these threads.
