do you have the fat ps3? orange ring of light?
if so, there is no permanent fix to that i think
i did the soldering trick on my 60 gig ps3 and it was hopeless, it would work for a week, or a day etc.. i ended up fixing it soo many times, i just gave up and bought a slim ps3
