From what I've seen, there is no proof that salt is bad for us at all. In fact, it's the most abundant electrolyte in our bodies, and avoiding sodium too much will lead to significant health problems. Much more than having too much sodium, that's for sure.
But I guess it's the latest thing for the media to latch onto for fear-mongering...
Here's some info you may want to look into, regarding sodium guidelines, and whether they are even having an effect on the population at all. (basically it says that people all over the world have been steadily taking about 3565–3680 mg/d on average, rather than the recommended intake)
