Is he the type of person who would actually use a wallet/money clip/car holder? ..or is his habit of jamming everything into his pocket something he'll never change?

Yeah, $300 for a watch isn't much. I'd say maybe $800 is the staring point for a decent watch. There are some nice Tissot watches - check out Time & Gold at Georgia and Richards.
