I believe only 30% of your wages can be garnished. Knowing him (well, only what we hear of him), he's not good for much and probably won't land a very good job. If he makes 2k a month you are looking at $600 per month. That can be paid off in 4-5 years ...

Don't know what will happen if he files bankruptcy. Are civil rulings wiped out too?
