The reality is people like to compare. If ur frd's bf has a 700k house & drives a P-car with their parents' money, chances are ur girl will start comparing u with that guy. If u'r a poor student who is trying to struggle ur way up while paying for ur student loan, u'll still lose major points even if u have all the right elements for success in the future. The sad thing is that there r quite a number of these rich immigrants that girls begin to feel entitled to these luxuries that people spend their lives accumulating.

Yea, I really would like know how they come to those national average figures. It doesnt take into account how long the "family" has been in the work force. A young couple under 30 is unlikely to make even close to 85k/year. I'd venture a guess that unless both are professionals, it's unlikely to be above that average until late 30s. Of coz, everyone will know someone who knows someone that makes 200k/yr at 25yrs old working at some special once-in-a-lifetime jobs. But saying that you can't live with a 70k combined income is pretty much bs.
