^ I believe we are talking about the standard living quality here. Like a decent place to live, an affordable car to drive, a salary that can feed your lazy ass wife + your kid(s), little debt to repay, plus some saving every month.

Assume 1/3 of your salary to pay off your mortgage ($2000-2500 a month), for sure 80K before tax is what you need. Keep in mind making an average income does not mean you are a middle class.


Having a gf could be helpful to pay off your debt, but like some say she could be your financial burden. So pick your gf wisely, a bank will not take your wife as a remortgage.
