Staying at Waikiki sounds like your best bet as its got the better parts of modern society. Beaches (driving away), shopping and food. Kauai is awesome if you like living local life and renting a house for a month by the beach.. It's like you've been warped back into 1971. Maui is great if your doing business while playing golf... or if you just got married.

Recommending a place is going to be tough as everyone's preferences are different in terms of value for hotel. Waikiki's got some great fancy hotels (Halekulani, Kahala)starting at the $650+ a night which is a nice treat if you're going with your sister, and then the local $80-120 a night with kitchen and lots of space (Waikiki Sunset) thats close by Kalakaua (the strip) - this is quite kid friendly.

The only thing of value I could recommend is booking a car and going to a beach called Lanikai Beach. About 20-25 minutes driving (with no traffic), and 45-50 minutes during traffic. It's beautiful and away from the city. PM me if you want more info.

If the beach is by the hotel, any arrangement $$$ can be made to have massages outside happen. I still highly recommend the Halekulani Spa for a sure bet.
