my only suggestion to op is....don't get overly obsess over this incident...
these kinds of things will probably drag on for 2 years or more...
It is not going to be good for you or your friends & family if you are constantly thinking about this and getting upset over it.
You don't want to look back years from now and realized you wasted a few good years of your life constantly thinking and getting upset over this.
40k is a lot of money, but the times of your life is worth more than that.
Edit:>> *this is not to say you should drop the pressure on the scammer, (actually you should keep it up and make his life a living hell), but just don't spend your life 24/7 thinking about it.
