The advantage of using a juicer, is that it separates all the nutrients out of the plant. When you just eat a plant whole, much of the nutrients (in liquid form), are trapped in cellulose, which is the indigestible "fiber" of the plant. I have read previously on some online magazine that up to 20% of nutrients could be wasted this way (I have no source however).
The other advantage of course is that you save tonnes of time and increase your nutrient uptake.
I recently upgraded my juicer by buying off someone on craigslist -- it was brand new, sealed in the box and never used. Bought it for $60 and it was still selling online for $250!
