That happened to my brothers MW2 account, and my MW1 account. I'm not sure how it works but I can't even play MW1 any more, the only servers I can get into are hacked ones. I recall running into the odd hacked one back in the day, but those were mild compared to the new ones.
I sent a message to the devs of one of the hacks, asking if there's a way to get my shit back. no reply so far though.
