I disagree a smart consumer would already know what product he/she would like to purchase. An average consumer in this case an average gamer might want to consider where he would rather spend his money. He could choose a lighter gaming platform such as the 3DS or a more intense gaming platform on the PSP2. I would compare the 3ds and the psp2 to a MAC and a PC. Why do average consumers rather buy a more expensive MAC than its PC counterpart is because of the platform not because of identical hardware.

The 3DS and PSP2 offer a different expereince when it comes to portable gaming. Now if Microsoft released an Xbox180 mobile platform which has similar hardware/software titles to the PSP2 then you have competition the average consumer might not want to purchase both because the gaming experience on both handhelds are similar.

mobile gaming should have a completely different experience than its console counterpart, killzone liberation and mgs portable catered to this experience by having an on the go short missions

I agree but PSP2 will have its own exclusives but from this handheld has a huge library; PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, PSP2, PSP-Go games (or whatever they call it).

the ds and the app store games differentiate the games from consoles, which is why it became so popular..

This is true but we are talking about next generation that is still past generation logic. This generation is all about "cloud computing" take your data/games/files/music on the go or have the complete experience at home this is what Sony is going after and its a big step in technology. Microsoft should of capitalized with this along time ago

its hard to tell wether the psp could have succeeded more without its piracy issues or it just cant compete with ds at all

PSP is doing good in Japan and with the PSP2 users can take the handheld anywhere they go and have a similar experience to what they play at home. For example a traveling salesman can have all his media in his pocket on the road wherever he/she goes.

what im really curious is how much will the psp cost now, there is no way they will price this at $250

Sony will price this at 349 (going to guess) which is a fair price since a 32GB IPOD sells for 299. Everybody forgets how Apple rapes its users for handhelds devices but people still buy them at stupid prices. Look at the iPHONE 4 it goes for 800 bucks which should really be sold for 350. Why is an iPHONE 4 more expensive than an iTOUCH is it because it has 3G, maybe is it because its labeled as a phone. Nowadays the term phone is stupid its more like phone software running on a computer and that makes a handheld device way to overpriced.

either the ps3 gets a price drop this holidays down to $250 and have this priced at $300, most likely more

I am going to guess 349 to start and price drops to 299 - 249, 209 etc
Just to make it clear I am not a Sony Fanboy I just see alot of potential in this device.
