You won't get a 300Mbps (N) connection from a device that only supports up to B (11Mbps) or G (54Mbps) speeds.
You should also know that you're testing internet speeds and just because you're connecting at 300Mbps, it doesn't mean your internet magically gets bumped to that speed. Your internet also has a max speed.
You're seeing expected behaviour.
PS: I wish we got residential internet speeds like that in Canada.
