i very much think the salary cap is part of the issue unless cory decides he's okay with playing the back up role
and at a discount for us. this is of course, after the 2011-2012 season where cory will become a UFA. we're basically circumventing the cap right now with LTIR (or "luck" as ppl have put it

). we will be seeing a lot of changes next year on our D. there's no way in hell we can keep bieksa + salo + ehrhoff + ballard + hamhuis + edler on the 2011-2012 roster all year long. also, keep in mind of those 6, only edler, ballard and hamhuis are still on contract. salo, ehrhoff and bieksa are all due to be UFA's after this season. then you factor in forwards. this really reminds me of the situation chicago had after last season.
our projected cap space is $12.8 mil next year with only 14 players (out of the current 25) signed. also, currently the sum salary of all our defenseman is $25.65 mil
