You know what, I agree with dangonay to a certain extent on NEWER cars........ I would say pretty much any new car (like 2004+) that has been written off had a LOT of damage and would have needed a crapload of work to be roadworthy again... so even if done properly, it's a bit of a crapshoot.

My old Crapalier had the roof and hood jumped on, spray painted, windows smashed, two wheels and stereo stolen, interior trashed, etc... $12k in damages on a car worth $18k. ICBC didn't write it off... was all fixed. So the dollar figures don't mean squat.
When the same car got torched by junkies on Halloween night six months later, they only gave me $6500 for the car... but I digress..
