What I did was swtich to barbell, and 5x5 of the heaviest I could possibly do without spot. I added 5lb (2.5lb) each week, and is currently still going up. Increased my bench by 25lb in about 4 weeks.
I also did a lot of weighted dips, which probably helped along the way.
