They're totally different animals. The D3x is more suited for studio shooting, and the 1DmkIV (or Nikon D3s) is better for sports, wildlife action shooting. If I'm just doing street photography, I'd pick the D3x over the 5DmkII, 1DmkIV or 1DsmkIII just because the new Nikon wide aperture primes (24G, 35G, 85G) destroy their Canon equivalents and the D3x's image quality can't be touched up to 400 ISO. If I'm heading out to shoot sports or wildlife, then the 1DmkIV would be my first choice because of the 1.3x crop, 16MP and 10fps.
Lately, I've been spoiled with shooting medium format digital, and even the current lowest end medium format digital back will utterly annihilate the image quality of the best 35mm based DSLR, so MF would be my choice for cityscape, landscape or studio work.
