Audio output from TV toslink is only 2.0 stereo. If you are using the built in HD tuner in the TV (not a set top box) then the output from TV toslink can be up to 5.1. Any devices connected to the TV via component/toslink, composite, or HDMI will only output as 2.0 stereo from TV toslink....
This is because the device (pvr, ps3, xbox, etc) auto negotiates with the tv, because the tv only supports 2.0 output the hdmi output will dumb down and will only output 2.0... The tv toslink will repeat this same signal and output stereo
