I think what the cartoon is saying is that Bettman did not want to compete with the NBA Finals. The schedule was pretty much created to avoid it going against the NBA. There are no games on the same day as the NBA Finals. NHL gets only 1 weekend game lol!

Tanev gets the job done, but not really an upgrade over Rome though.
