Who says you HAVE to have 3rd line caliber players on your "3rd line"? Stack the team... the cup will be where it belongs next year.

For one thing, we will NEVER be able to afford Weber unless we trade Ballard and not re-sign Juice and Hoff. Guaranteed Weber makes at least $6.5m for his next contract. Possibly more. I'm going to guess $10m front end first year like Lu's contract. He is the best all around defenseman in the league.
AND HIS BEARD IS MAGNIFICENT
Also, yes, you can load up but you have to consider the cap. Paying 1st line money for a 3rd liner is stupid. The 3rd line doesn't play as many minutes. You're just wasting money. It's like "Hey, let's sign Sidney Crosby so he'll play on the 3rd line, guys!" What the Canucks have done is the correct approach...look for high-end, roleplaying guys like Manny Malhotra...an "elite" 3rd liner in that he's better than most of the 3rd liners in the league except guys that are 1st liner but have to play less minutes because someone extra awesome is ahead of them (like Jordan Staal).
Or else hey...let's get a team that looks like this, gais!
Sedin-Sedin-Perry
Burrows-Kesler-St. Louis
Toews-Malhotra-Nash
Clutterbuck-Lapierre-Dustin Brown
Weber Keith
Edler Ehrhoff
Bieksa Hamhuis
Luongo
Lundqvist
Rinne
LOOOOOOL
CAP HIT IS ONLY $127 million or something, gais! We'll have to sign Rinne to a two-way as well so we can have him play on the Moose most of the year.
