I don't completely agree. I got hired at RBC without any connections.
To increase your chances of getting a bank job, i say you have to try to distinguish yourself from other candidates after the same position. Managers who conduct face to face interviews hear the same generic answers over and over again. People say they have this and that skill or etc. These typical answers likely won't leave a lasting impression on the interviewer.
During these times, positions are limited and employers want potential candidates who are a good fit and who want to grow within the company. This is what the branch manager told me after he interviewed me.
This is just my 2cents. No argument intended
