I would let ICBC fix his car first and then just pay ICBC back afterwords before it affects the renewal or a new plate. If you deal privately and then he goes through ICBC it'll get ugly.

There was a scenario where person A settled privately with person B. Not long after person B went to ICBC and went through the claim process. It kinda got messy after that..
