I think I got mine from about 2-3 years ago from DealExtreme but I don't remember paying that much for them. Maybe they increased the price?
12V Flexible Cuttable LED Tape
They have a lot more in different length and color.
Maybe try ebay to see if you can get some for cheaper.

Also, is swapping out LEDs difficult?
