There is no doubt that given his 50pt season Ehrhoff is a $5mil to 5.5mil defenseman at least. However if that is his price to stay on the Canucks, I think letting him walk is the best thing.

I think in the back of Gillis' mind is that he needs to re-up Edler in a couple seasons and giving Ehrhoff that money and likely a NTC too (I'm sure Ehrhoff is looking for) will handcuff the Canucks with potentially 5 defensemen making $4mil + cap hit. Keep in mind Ballard also has a limited NTC and is signed till 2015.

Personally I'm not blaming or upset Ehrhoff wants a payday, its his prerogative as a UFA.
