What can we say? Apple knows how to market to those who are not overly knowledgeable within the phone or technology market. For an average user, who isn't interested in jailbreaks or any way of unleashing the phones full potential, any additional features will just add onto a complex list of things a lot of people won't nitpick about.
They use simple phrases like 'light years ahead of its time' and 'revolutionary' to sell it to those people. Those users don't necessarily care whether you have an awesome and improved, yet copied notification system. They care about the idea that the phone has a lot of features and is so called ahead of its time.
