From my personal experience:

Sportchek - Work at a slow store and it can be fun. When it gets busy, it gets horribly busy. You'll be running around and sweating your ass off! However, I met a lot of cool people working at sportchek many of which I still talk to. Also, the discount was bad-ass!

Safeway - unionized. Good pay, good benefits, really slack. Try to become a general clerk/stock boy. They can't tell you to work faster, and they can't fire you unless you're caught stealing/doing something else really stupid. If you're late/misbehaving they write you up. Gotta get written up like 5x for termination and most managers are too lazy to write you up so they just give verbal warnings lol. I loved it except for the uniform/dress code. Must be clean shaven = gay.
