Semanticity is the idea that every word has a specific and direct relation to real world situations.
Displacement is the ability to talk about stuff outside of the current frame (ie. something happened in a different place/time).
Productivity is the ability to produce infinite number of original new sentences from a finite number of words/terms
Duality of patterning - ability to make meaningful statements from discrete segments. Pattern that is repeated at various levels of language ie. sounds > words. Words > sentences. Sentences > discourse.
Discreteness - Property of sounds/words that makes them contrastive from one another. You must have discrete words in order to have duality of patterning.
Cultural Transmission - kids learn from parents.
