Physical ability lost? No, not really. Mental stability issues? Bingo. He'll go through stretches where he'll save everything in sight and then he'll proceed to fall apart for 3 weeks with constant mental lapses. Luckily for him, at least as his statistics are concerned, is that he's been able to be good for longer periods of time up to this point.
His on-ice body language is troublesome to see especially when he lets in a weak goal and you know that he knows it when he lets out his "body groan" for all to see. Not a particularly nice sight to see as a fan watching nevermind the team in front of him.
The bar he set for himself was so damn high with that dominating first year, 47 win campaign that he'll never reach those levels again and truth be told, I believe a huge chunk of his critics now come from denial in thinking a goalie could play like that (if not improve upon) season after season and instead, all they see now is a huge, unrecoverable fall from grace that has crippled the team to the hip for 12 more years.
As for Schneider, he has proven himself to play games outside of back to backs. It'd be nice to see him in a crucial game.
