I believe theres an outclause in the contract that allows Luongo to break the contract and leave in the 5th year, and the Canucks have an option to break the contract and walk away from Lu in the 7th year. I dont recall whether it was to leave the contract completely, or whether it was just regarding the no-trade clause. But I remember it being a super unique contract when I heard about it, leave it to MG to get creative. So the 12 yr contract is really just a 7 yr contract
