That won't permanently remove Apps. I already asked Apple Support about this and they don't have a way to get rid of old purchases yet.

You can also hide old purchase in iTunes, and after your phone is updated they're hidden there as well. If Apple can let you hide apps, why not go a little further and simply remove them?

Similarly, if I download a free trial and then the paid version, what's the point of keeping the trial? It should automatically delete upon purchase of the paid version (or get converted to the full version). I don't need two copies of the same App in my library. I also don't need my FIFA 2010 World Cup App anymore since, well, it's over. Along with other time sensitive event apps.

Seems like a little simple housekeeping could really tidy things up for people.
