Unfortunately, the problem is not always HIDs, the problem is sometimes idiots.
Last week I was driving to West Van along the #1, and there is an SUV behind me that's blinding me. I figure, not such a big deal, whatever, once I pull up it won't be so bad. Don't I wish. I take the Taylor way exit, and she pulls up behind me. and it's still ridiculous. Turns out it was a woman in an RDX that had her HID lowbeams and Halogen highbeams on. I pull into the leftmost of the two lanes (the one she wasn't using) and tell her (first by honking to get her attention, then by talking to her once she rolled down her window) that her highbeams are on. Her answer?
"No, it's not my highbeams, it's on auto!"
I tell her to pull back on the stalk so that the highbeams go off...and then she turns off her lights, turning on her DRLs at which point she says "No, see? That's just the lowbeams! Okay, whatever, THANK YOU!"
More than half of the problem is stupidity, not malice.
