I don't want to come off as a Debbie Downer, but if you're serious about achieving a time that is less than 50 minutes, I would never run in the Sun Run. The Sun Run is great for people who have never taken up running seriously, want to sing Kumbaya while doing their and and get high fives from people when they slag across the finish line in about an hour.
I'm no elite runner myself (my personal best is 46 minutes and change), but I would never again put up with people who don't move when I want to pass and people who stop to walk in the middle of the race. There are so many events now where you can get a proper race experience with good post-race food and decent swag.
