I would just go with a basic player from costco or something. Most of the cheaper ones without things like network streaming and netflix are nice and simple because they don't have other features.
The issue with Blu Ray Players - is that you WILL have to run updates once in a while or you will encounter problems with new movies you can't play. At least with a PS3, it's not hard to set up - and connect to your network.
